Organization Information

Yabi Nursery and Child Care is a non profit organization that was established by the director, Linda Bensoussan, in 1986 as she was looking for quality care for her own preschooler.  Approached by the community to expand to include infants and toddlers-a novel idea in the 1980s-YABI was the first licensed Orthodox Jewish Child Care program to serve infants in the U.S.!  "Morah Linda" as she is known to the children at the school continues to direct the program uninterruptedly since Yabi Nursery and Child Care Center's inception in 1986.

Philosophy and Goals

From infancy through preschool, children are challenged and nurtured to meet their individual potential in all areas of development through music, art, science and free play. Yabi Nursery and Child Care, a Jewish child care program, enriches its early learning standards based curriculum with Shabbat, Jewish holiday celebrations and core Jewish values.

Our program focuses on values that are important to all families. Our children learn the importance of respecting their elders, visiting the sick, giving charity, being kind to their friends and the importance of family. Yabi welcomes all families to our program.

The relaxed yet stimulating atmosphere at Yabi Nursery and Child Care encourages self expression and nurture's the child's self image. We aim to offer each child the opportunity to grow emotionally and physically in a safe, creative, and loving Torah atmosphere. We hope to encourage the child to:

1. Learn to play and share in a group with his/her peers

2. Think or use his/her imagination effectively to express his/her ideas and feelings

3. Develop patience and learn to control his/her emotions.

4. Develop good habits of eating, dressing, health habits, and general good manners

5. Think independently and respect the rights of others

6. Initiate play in an environment free of electronic devices

Children will be encouraged to be proactive rather than reactive, developing at their own pace, establishing positive attitudes about themselves and the world around them.

Our program includes an onsite music specialist, visits from the University Heights librarian, as well as daily visits to our fully equipped gross motor room affectionately called our "bike room" and a state of the art playground that is adjacent to our building with classroom access directly to the playground.

Mission Statement:
YABI's mission is to nurture a child's self-image in a Jewish environment.
